One of my favourite all round speakers. The EV S40's have a measured response of 85 to 20,000 Hz at -3dB with a long term average power rating of 160 Watts (yes really). Being only 25cm high, 18cm wide and 15cm deep, they are a compact weatherproof speaker capable of reproducing accurate sound at high volume levels in a wide range of environments.

I use them at home around the pool as a full range outdoor speaker and also in my media room as surround speakers (with the amp. set to "small surrounds" thus only feeding the little blighters with 85Hz and above). They do lack a little in the bottom mids but offer way more than any speaker anywhere near it's size. The top end and vocals are genuine studio monitor quality, in fact they may sound a little bright to the untrained ear but for those of us who enjoy music the way it was originally intended to be heard, these are little rippers.

Being a professional monitor, these are not pretty speakers as they are designed as an engineering tool rather than a lifestyle product (sorry Dr. Bose), however they are as accurate a speaker as can be manufactured in a box this small. If size is a problem for your main speakers, when added to a high quality subwoofer, the S40's will perform as well as most floor standing speakers in the under $2500 price range. Although only 85dB efficient, any amp with 50 Watts or more will drive them OK (being 4 Ohms they can pull more current out of any of the modern good quality amps). They come in black or white and retail for $899 pair.
