Here is a list of all our major brands with links (where available)
and our opinions of them. All comments are from the staff of Eastwood
HiFi therefore are subjective and not necessarily accurate.
Yamaha
One of the worlds largest manufacturers of component A/V equipment.
Very reliable with a full two year warranty on all parts and labour
(Australia). Well priced and offers some of the best technology in the
business - Not to mention some of the best value subwoofers available.
Sonos
The best streaming wireless music system on the planet.
Onkyo
One of the first brands we supported back when we started in
the late 70's. Reliable, musical and, whereas not quite up to
the technical level of Yamaha, is certainly a close second.
Great value for money.
Cambridge Audio
Kind of like Audiolab (see below) except greater range and
less expensive.
Audiolab
Audiophile quality equipment at a realistic price - How?
Design 'em in England and build 'em in China. Only a small range
but absolutely superb two channel sound.
REL
Probably the most revered subwoofer company in the world now
that M&K have self destructed. Very cosmopolitan, originally
Welsh, now owned by the Yanks and made anywhere from the UK to
China and everywhere in between. Extremely musical although it
takes patience to fiddle and get the best out of them.
Marantz
Superb two channel equipment with some of the best C.D. players
available. High quality surround equipment at new highly competitive
pricing. Full three year warranty.
DB
Dynamics
Some of the best value for money speakers on the Australian market.
Mostly conceived by Roger (lets do lunch) Manning. Also does motorised
screens and A/V racks
Jamo
Used to be cutting edge design and built in Denmark. Now bought out
by Klipsch and built mainly in China (not necessarily a bad thing) Still
good but safe design and aimed at the younger mass market (with some
notable exceptions)
Panasonic
Wide range of consumer electronics including excellent HiFi Stereo
VCR's at reasonable prices. Excellent value for
money audio products sold under their Technics brand name. Now
manufacturing some of the most advanced T.V's available (Plasma, Rear
Projection and LCD)
KEF
One of England's oldest established speaker companies. Amazing
Sub/Sat Systems called the KHT range. Their reference range tops out at
around $34,000 pair. Hmm.
Electrovoice
One of the world leaders in studio monitors and sound re-enforcement.
The speakers and power amplifiers are not attractive (in fact they can
be downright ugly) but offer some of the best sound at any price. Full
five year warranty
Meridian
Very up market electronics and speakers. If you can afford it, buy it!
I'm not sure if the importers will still let us sell it as they've gone
even further up market and we're decidedly down top earth.
Paradigm
Unbelievable value for money speakers in their Studio range.
Excellent value subwoofers. Steve's favourite speakers. Now producing
the Signature range - up to $12500 pair, competing with speakers up to
$50,000 from other manufacturers.
Harman Kardon
The dark horse of the industry. Due to their honesty in
quoting specifications, on paper they don't match up to other
brands. In practice, they outperform most A/V and two channel
amplifiers which have double HK's quoted power. Their musicality
is legendry.
As soon as they improve their quality control, I'm sure we'll
be back to thoroughly recommending the product.
