Four out of
five - Not bad.
I mean four out of five musicians, of course. The
best "Yes" lineup that ever was (and still could be) is Jon Anderson (Vocals,
Guitars and Keyboards) Steve Howe (anything with 4 to 12 strings) Bill Bruford
(anything that can be hit) Rick Wakeman (Keyboards) and Chris Squires (Bass).
All that's lacking here is Chris Squires and also the reason the band can't be
called "Yes" as Chris holds the rights to the name. Still, four out of five
ain't bad.
This is a made for TV concert and was recorded in the US
in 1994. As a consequence there is no 5.1 sound, the Stereo mix, however, is
absolutely superb. The concert starts with Jon Anderson in his super narcissist
mode, it's a good job he's an absolutely magnificent vocalist otherwise he'd
really give me the shits. Jon introduces himself to the audience and does a solo
gig, followed by Steve Howe giving a blinding display on the guitar(s) then the
coupe de gras, Rick Wakeman in full flight playing better than I've ever seen
him. Rick Wakeman fans would buy this DVD just for his 10 minute solo
performance.
Tracks include all the early stuff, Your Move/I've Seen
all Good People, Heart of the Sunrise, The Clap, Starship Trooper, And You and
I, plus some stuff off the (then) new ABWH album such as Brother of mine and The
Meeting.
Only two things mar this concert, Jon Anderson's inter
song jaunts and the fact that Chris Squires was not on Bass ( the fill in Bass
Man was pushed back in the mix and added nothing to the performance) Otherwise
it's as good a Yes concert as one could hope for.
