So what's a
52 year old ex-rock'n roller doing with a Britney Spears DVD? Well I bought it
for my 10 year old daughter. It just so happens that Britney is easy on the
eyes, even if the voice grates a little. As a consequence I've seen it a couple
of times and much to my delight, the sound is superb (so I have something to
listen to whilst I'm looking).
This is a heck of a DVD to show off a good Audio setup. It is a mix of live
concert (in Hawaii) live TV shows and video music clips. As a result the sound
is all over the place - don't get me wrong - it's all good It's just that it
slips from 5.1 to stereo and back again. The mixdowns are uniform however with
the LFE given a workout on the bass lines which are tight and funky.
The cream of the DVD is the live version of "Oops...I Did it Again" which
intersperses some of the studio footage with the live concert. The clip starts
out in mono - moves to stereo and explodes into 5.1 - it sure scared the crap
outta me! A good subwoofer is a must to get the most out of this one. The music
may not be to everybody's taste but it's well played and recorded and can be
watched time and time again thanks to the outstanding visuals.
