Jamo 410 PDD

Cute - you bet! Each satellite is only 220 X 110 X 88 mm and comes with a variety of mounting options including the sexiest floor stands you've ever seen. Even the subwoofer is cute - at 600 X 325 X 154 mm it's so compact it can be mounted on a wall (really!)

The satellites are a true 2 way system (I'm not having a go at Bose again, honestly) with a 3.5" midrange and a 1" tweeter, recommended amplifier power is 20 to 70 Watts.

Notice how the connecting wire becomes part of the stand at the rear - damn clever these Danes. All the satellites are magnetically shielded so they can be placed in close proximity to any TV set. The subwoofer has a built in 100 Watt amplifier and an 8" woofer with an 8" passive radiator.

The sound from this little package is outstanding, mind you it's not an inexpensive solution to your sonic needs ($2299 including 1 set of floor stands) however, after hearing and seeing this package the purchase price becomes easily justifiable. Actually I just read that the price in the States is US$1400 without any floorstands which are (gasp) an extra US$399 pair. All of a sudden these look like an absolute bargain.

We tested the package with a Marantz SR-5200 Receiver and DV-4200 DVD Player using Lost in Space which always lets us test the dynamics of any system. The A410's handled the test with aplomb, even the opening space battle didn't phase the little beauties. Musically they can be a little on the bright side although a quick tweak on the treble control tamed that to the extent that even Steely Dan's "Two Against Nature" sounded great - a trebly sound at the best of times.

Again, the only caveat with this as in any small sub/sat system is that in a large area the sound tends to get lost. I would specify 6 X 5 metres as the maximum listening area (as distinct from room size) before the system would start to struggle.

Along with the KEF KHT 2005 System, this has to be at the cutting edge of Sound / Lifestyle surround sound speakers, unlike the KEF, however, the Jamo package can be made almost invisible and would look better when wall mounted - Highly Recommended.
