Usually
when I buy DVD's I rely on the short description given on the 'net by the
retailers of said disc. When I read that Wingspan was a history of McCartney's
"Wings" and his attempt to maintain his successful live performing career, I
bought Wingspan as I'm a great fan of McCartney and his music. When I realized
the interviewer was Paul McCartney's daughter and the producer was Paul himself
I figured this was going to be a little biased. Right On!
This DVD is a schmaltzy delving into Paul McCartney's past which appears to
be done so as not to offend anyone, anywhere, anyhow. No hard hitting questions
here, just well thought out probing with carefully premeditated answers. Even
the ending of the Beatles days is softened so as to appear to be almost mutually
agreeable, and the sacking of certain Wings band members, which were acrimonious
at the time, have been made to seem like a pleasant parting of the ways.
The live performances are only partial and the sound quality a very ordinary
stereo mix, visuals are of TV quality only.
There is no real reason to watch, let alone purchase, this DVD. It doesn't
tell us anything we didn't know before and distorts some of what we did.
