Get sick of all those remote controls milling around? I
sure do, but most of the "Universal" remotes I've tried are either too messy,
not wife friendly or won't handle all the IR frequencies. The SRC-2010 is
different.
The major advantage of this unit is that the buttons on
the touch screen are able to be renamed and resized via your PC and the supplied
cable. This means that "Optus Cable" or "Foxtel" can be labeled as such and
makes life just that little bit easier. Each main screen leads into a subscreen
and all up, 10 devices can be controlled with a maximum of 42 buttons per
device.
Another neat feature is the programmable back light. The
screen backlight can be adjusted to automatically activate at a variety of
ambient light situations and the duration of activation can be varied.
As per most of these devices, the SRC-2010 learns the
functions from the original remotes and stores them, in this case, in flash
memory, so that the data is saved even if the batteries go flat. There are 12
macro functions with up to 25 steps per function so all devices may be turned on
/ off with just one touch of a button.
There is a clock and calendar incorporated which allows
you to program up to 12 devices to turn on or off at pre determined times. The
other exciting thing about the SRC-2010 (although maybe not to you) is the fact
that it operates my air conditioning system. Most remotes I've tried previously
didn't 'cause they couldn't handle the frequency of the IR controller.
The connecting cable (supplied) not only allows connection
to the PC for programming the layout but accesses any other SRC-2010 and lets
you clone it. Think about that one - it could save hours of programming if
you're running multi room systems.
All in all, this is the best affordable remote I've used.
It's still not cheap (RRP $349) but a heck of a lot cheaper than most other
programmable, touch screen remotes on the market.
