Let's get one thing straight, I didn't buy this one, it was given to my daughter for Christmas and I just happened to stumble across it. I would never have thought about buying a DVD of a singer who (so I thought) only appeals to teenyboppers. Well, the audience is certainly made up solely of teenyboppers but the musical content is suitable for all ages.

This is a rollicking good romp through many types of music, there are ballads, rock and Irish Folk music all brilliantly performed by as ragged a bunch of Irishmen as you'd see drinking down at the Dublin Arms Hotel.

Young Ronan does the usual "talk to the audience" bit, sings a lot and then introduces us to the band, most of whom are old enough to be his father. Don't you just love it when these young whippersnappers have to admit that us oldies can still hold it together as a backing band (we just don't have the energy or looks to be up front anymore).

The sound is very well recorded and good use is made of the 5.1 (Dolby Digital) sound. The bass is a bit over the top and I had to knock 5 dB off the output (better than not enough however). The highlight for me was the old Irish drinking song "Whisky in the Jar" which is the song that first got me onto Thin Lizzy back in the good old day's. All Ronan's hits are here including the old Cat Steven's song "Father and Son" along with "When you say Nothing at All" and "The Way you make me Feel". Even though Ronan's singing is exemplary, it's the talents of his backing band that fascinated me. Using the Accordion and Tin Whistle added much to the uniqueness of the sound and lifted the concert way above the ordinary.

This DVD was a total surprise to me and I can heartily recommend it for a pleasant evenings entertainment that will appeal to the whole family. It will also give any high quality sound system a workout as the dynamic range at "realistic" listening levels is quite extraordinary.
